Thermal Non-Equilibrium Forced Convective Flow in an Annulus Filled with a Porous Medium
In light of a local thermal non-equilibrium model, fully developed forced convection in an annulus filled with a porous medium is treated to elucidate its exact temperature solutions for both fluid and solid phases. In this study, the plug-flow approximation is assumed since Darcian velocity over the cross-section is uniform except in a small region very close to the walls. The inner wall is he...
متن کاملA numerical study of axisymmetric flow regimes in a rotating annulus with local convective forcing
We present a numerical study of 2D axisymmetric flows in a rotating annulus convectively forced by local thermal forcing via a heated annular ring at the bottom near the external wall and a cooled circular disk near the centre at the top surface of the annulus. Two vertically and horizontally displaced heat sources/sinks are arranged so thatstatically unstable Rayleigh-Bénard convection would b...
متن کاملRegimes of Axisymmetric Flow and Scaling Laws in a Rotating Annulus with Local Convective Forcing
We present a numerical study of axisymmetric flow in a rotating annulus in which local thermal forcing, via a heated annular ring on the outside of the base and a cooled circular disk in the centre of the top surface, drives convection. This new configuration is a variant of the classical thermally-driven annulus, where uniform heating and cooling are applied through the outer and inner sidewal...
متن کاملStability and fluctuations of a spatially periodic convective flow
2014 Using a model equation we analyze the onset of convection for a roll instability. The wavelength increase follows from a variational approach. For certain wavelengths, phase diffusion turns out to be unstable against compression (or dilatation) and torsion of the rolls. Thermal phase fluctuations induce a tiny brownian motion of the structure which should be observable in carefully designe...
